User reviews Be the first to review. Details Edit. Message Sent. Guide and Walkthrough by Syonyx Version: 1. Got it? Now that that's cleared up, we can get on with the show. In this game, you take on the role of Mathayus, who looks and sounds suspiciously like The Rock, in a third-person adventure game set mostly in ancient Egypt.

This guide will walk you through the game with as much useful information as I can come up with. For the most part this will boil down to combat, since that makes up the vast bulk of the game. You will find general combat tips in section 4, below. Perhaps most importantly, I will provide straightforward instructions on defeating the game's hulking bosses, both within the walkthrough and in a separate section. I have repeated that information to accommodate those dear readers who only need tips on defeating the bosses, since they are the most likely places a player might get stuck.

To top it off, I will also lead you to as many rubies and hidden power-ups as I or contributing readers have been able to locate. To navigate through the walkthrough, please see the index immediately below this introductory section.

It provides a search function that will let you jump to the section for the area that you're looking for in the game. This guide was written primarily for the GameFAQS community, though you may see it elsewhere over time. I hope you enjoy it, and that it helps you throught the game in some small way. You can also check the end of the guide for a little bit more info on me, Syonyx, the author of these words that you're reading.

It is provided for free personal enjoyment only. Any commercial use of this document or any part thereof is strictly prohibited. Any public display of the document must be authorized by the author, and must include intact the original indications of legal authorship. Pause the game at any time and check the bottom of the screen for the name of the section you're in.

Some of the names make sense, others Check the following list for the appropriate chapter and section 3. Press ctrl-f and enter the code beside the section name, then press enter to jump to that section in the walkthrough below.

For the Gamecube controls in brief, see below. To make life easier for users of both machines, I will refer to the controls by the command name in the rest of the guide e. From here, you have a few options: 1. New game. Start a new game duh. Load game. Load a game from a memory card 3. View bonuses unlocked by finding gems in-game. Adjust the music, voice, and effects volume levels. See the resemblance? The enemy meter appears with a number showing how many enemies there are to defeat.

The enemies come at you, you kill them. Each time you kill one, the enemy meter appears again briefly showing you how many are left. Once they're all dusted, the door to the next area opens. Walk through it and it starts all over again. Along the way, don't forget to look for power-ups in breakable objects, rubies, and new weapons, found in sarcophagi throughout the game. Mathayus's life meter shows two things: health in green top , and stamina in blue bottom.

Once stamina is gone, you can't do any stamina moves until you replenish your bar. Your health bar can be supplemented by Tail Gems red stones that fill slots around bottom of life meter. You gain these by defeating major enemies.

One tail gem equals a full life bar. If you have any tail gems remaining when the life bar runs out, the gem goes out and the bar is refilled. You don't lose gems permanently; as you grab health power- ups, they fill up again. Basically, each tail gem that you earn increases your maximum health. When all gems and the health bar are empty, you die, and are given the choice to continue.

Choose 'yes' to re-start from the last save point see below , or the start of the boss battle, if you're currently in one. Some areas contain a scorpion-icon save point on the ground. They start off inactive. You have to clear all of the enemies in the area which also opens the door to the next area to turn them on. Stand on the save point and press X to activate it, taking you to the pause menu see below , where the save game option is now available.

The bar will gradually deplete, and if you can kill all of the enemies before it vanishes completely, you will be rewarded with a ruby, which appears near the exit door. If you fail this task, don't worry! You can re-enter this area and re-try as many times as it takes. So do it again with a different weapon, or enter from the opposite end to take advantage of the local topography, or just keep button-mashing away until you succeed.

Health 25, 50, Full. Stamina 25, 50, Full. Fills up the stated percentage of the stamina meter. Strength up. Permanently increases the damage Mathayus reaps on his enemies. Endurance up. Permanently decreases the damage Mathayus takes from the blows he receives. See the Combat section for the various status effects.

The first two power-ups health and stamina can be found in a variety of ways. Most come from defeating enemies. Some are found when you break jars, vases, and other pieces of the environment. A few are just lying around. Strength and Endurance power-ups can only be found in cracks in the ground or walls.

Do a ground stomp near these cracks to obtain them. Note: Most of the time, you do not need to physically touch the power-ups. Once they are revealed by killing certain enemies or destroying objects , they will fly over to you on their own. Walk near them to collect them, or break open the object they're contained inside.

You'll have to jump to reach a few of them. Collect as many as you can to open up bonuses in the opening menu. Each time you've collected enough rubies to open up a new bonus, an icon shaped like an eye will flash in the bottom left of the game screen. The vast majority of these bonuses are concept art and sketches of the various game environments, objects, weapons, and enemies, so I won't list them in this guide.

There are also unlockable movies from the game, but these are revealed as you reach those movies through normal play. There are also trailers for the feature film, cartoon, and the video game itself, but these are available at the start. You can see how many rubies are in each stage by opening the pause menu. Many thanks to several readers listed in the 'thank-you' section at the end of the guide for contributing missing rubies, and especially to Ladyhawk for her summary and confirmation of all rubies and powerups when I got all mixed up with all of the updates.

You have the following options: 1. Return to the game. Gives you more options: i Weapon. Shows you the combos for the currently- equipped weapon.

Inventory of rubies from all stages. Return to the previous screen. Options 4. Save game. Only available when standing on an active save point. Leave the game and go to the opening screen. Press X to select options, and Triangle to back up one screen. Anyway, while blocking, Mathayus takes half damage if he is bare-armed, and no damage if carrying a shield. The shield takes damage, however, and will flash green, then yellow, orange, red, then disappear as it absorbs hits.

Pick up another shield to repair your current one. But why just block when you can knock some guys over too? Knock over foes ahead of you. Kick out your opponent's legs, bringing them to the ground.

You can damage them while they're on the ground in this way, too. All enemies around Mathayus will be sent flying. Use these moves to keep the number of standing, attacking enemies low. Block too much, and you'll deplete your shield, so use it wisely.

Be aware, too, that some moves can't be blocked. Enemies have stamina attacks too! Also know that enemies can block, but they will still take half-damage without a shield. You can always use a stamina attack to break their block, or grapple them. You can replenish your stamina by collecting power-ups. Stamina moves knock away all enemies around you, so use them when you're being surrounded. There is a standing stamina move, where you spin around and might give an additional strike depending on your weapon, a breakout stamina move while blocking , and each weapon type has a running stamina move as well, which is described in the tables below.

Use them wisely, but don't be too stingy with them either, because power-ups are plentiful when lots of enemies are around. This sends a small shockwave out in all directions, causing minor damage and momentarily stunning your enemies. Follow this up quickly with some direct attacks before they recover. You can also use this on fallen enemies to add a little extra injury to insult. Using the strong attack, as opposed to the light attack, brings your weapon into the smash, but any difference in damage is negligible.

They will damage and knock over whomever they hit. You cannot use them to hit an enemy immediately in front of you; they must be at least a little distance away. Some urns hold surprises too. Red, short urns with a flame pattern on the side will release fire when they break. Others let out a puddle of black ooze, or explode on contact. That's all well and good when you're tossing them at other people, but if you get hit while carrying one, you'll drop it and feel the effects, and if you break it open directly, whatever's inside will harm you as well.

You can kick the crap out of him before he gets up. The following moves can damage an opponent on the ground: 1. Jumping attack ground stomp 2. Leg sweep Strong attack while blocking 3. Many strikes and combos, especially single strong attacks. The only problem is, the first two don't do very much damage, as fun as they are.

It's more efficient overall to start a new combo on a foe once he starts to rise. You will always equip the strongest weapon of the type you selected in your inventory. The strength level of that weapon will be indicated by the number of colored tail gems along the bottom of the weapon selector. Bare handed Start of game 2.

Skull crusher Vengeance of Magus: Angel's Lament 4. Sabertooth Cursed Island: Wailing in Despair 5. Spear Cursed Island: Breath of Souls 3.

Naginata The Tomb: Morbid Curiosity 4. Serpent's Tongue Gardens: Another Perspective 5. Broad sword Palace of Khemet: Hall of Soldiers 2. Picking up a stronger shield type will replace your current shield, and picking up the same shield or a weaker shield will restore your current shield to full strength.

Round Shield Akkadian Village 2. Dome Shield Town of Khemet 3. Spiked Shield Vengeance of Magus 4. Shield of Perseus only in Cursed Island 5.

Enemy must be directly ahead. Press S during second swing. The game mistakenly lists this as L,L,L,S. Enemy stamina must be directly ahead. Short range. Leaves you vulnerable for a moment after. Makes you take a step forward while spinning L,L,L,S King's Wish Two swings, slash up, then down. Doesn't look it, but has wide range.

Use on fallen enemies. Turns you around. Slows you attack down and takes a long time to complete. Foe has to be straight ahead. If your health is high, they won't really be a problem, but otherwise they can be deadly.

A green glow will surround you and you will slowly lose health for a set period of time, unless you pick up an antidote charm. You will be unable to run while under it's effect, which last a few moments. Anti-slow charms will cure this condition. Your stamina will slowly dissipate. Grab an anti-wither charm to cancel the effects, or just get stamina power-ups once it's done.

It burns, it burns! Fire will also take away some health. The flames will go out on their own eventually, or as soon as you jump into some water. The best way to avoid getting set on fire: don't touch any flames! In each, you only have access to one particular group of moves.

Use this opportunity to get accustomed with the variety of moves you will need down the road. To exit each area, go through the gate under the tarpaulin with the arrow painted on it. Defeat the enemy here with basic light and strong attacks and combos. You can do your charge attack as well. Use breakout moves while blocking to defeat him. There's a round shield in the corner of the pen with the trainer. Get it before you challenge him.

It'll break very easily, but it always regenerates in the corner. Don't forget to kick the trainer while he's down. Try kicking the camels, too! Here, you can only use jumping attacks and grappling. Do a ground stomp to stun him, then grab him and toss him over your shoulder. Jump on him while he's down. This is also the first area with cracks in the ground, on either side of the first clearing.

Ground stomp near them to obtain their treasures. Now you can only fight by throwing urns. The trainer will take a swing at you then stay still for a while, so pick one up and toss it at him from a distance. There's also a crack in the wall that be opened by throwing an urn at it. The urns are regenerating, so don't worry if you run out.

Jump and stomp near it. The goal here is to use stamina attacks, but you can do ground stomps too. You will run out of stamina, so stomp the cracks in the ground. They're regenerating. Jump to it. You now lose the limitations on your moves, and can use whatever you like.

The trainers will quickly surround you, so use stamina attacks when you need to. Just do everything and you'll be fine. But then the real challenge comes: defeat them again before the timer runs out.

Doing so nets you a ruby. If you fail, you can try again. Note: you have to collect the rubies and anything else you want here before you kill the last enemy, because it jumps to the next stage once you do, and there's no going back. They fight as normal folk, except they're stronger, and they block your attacks frequently. Do some ground stomps to shake them up. If you can't get a good hit in because they're blocking, do a stamina attack on them instead.

There are lots of regenerating health power-ups in the urns around the area, so this shouldn't be a problematic fight.

Always enter doors from the side with the lock to advance, otherwise you'll just be backtracking. Strength power-up: In crack in ground beside starting building. Endurance power-up: on wall by the roof with stairs leading down to ruby, throw a pot at the crack. You can pick up and throw the smaller items, in addition to the urns. After the first wave of enemies, climb the stack of boxes by the building that was ahead of you at the start. This activates the next wave.

Dispatch them and climb the boxes onto the roof for a ruby. Jump to the other rooftop with urns on it from there, and go down the far side for another ruby on the ground. Once you've killed all of the enemies, the save point activates, and the door opens. Get used to this pattern. Try hitting the fire brazier beside the starting building; it rocks, but you're not strong enough to knock it over yet. Strength power-up: In crack in ground on the left after entering.

Use these to your advantage, but don't step into the flames yourself. You encounter armed foes for the first time, guards with swords. They do a little more damage, so don't get caught in a series of hits. Stamina attacks are useful if you're worried. Strength power-up: In urn beside wooden sign. What's with the giant? They must feed the well in this town.

Do what you have to, pick up the round shield, and save your game before advancing. Endurance power-up: In crack in ground, in corner on the left after entering hard to see. After you take care of the first trio, look for the support beam with steam at its top.

Kick this one out to collapse part of the platforms above. Take care of business, then go up top and get the treasures. Endurance power-up: upon climbing to roof, throw pot at the crack on the right.

They like to jump into the fray from a short distance. The ones here aren't very tough, but they will get worse later on. Deal with them with kicks, leg sweeps, or stamina attacks if you get surrounded. Smash the fence in the back to trigger the second round of foes, then hit the cart by the locked door to make it move. Climb the cart to reach the rooftops, where you can get a round shield, and a ruby at the far end.

With just 2 enemies remaining, one of the two locked doors the one with the ruby over it will open, and the last 2 villains wait inside. But that's not all you'll find in there You also get the first weapon of the game, the bronze sword! Check this guide or the combo list above. Leave this room and enter the other, larger unlocked door. Use the fire braziers to your advantage if possible, just don't get caught in the flames yourself. This is your first encounter with archers, too.

Run around or stay far out of range until you take out the rest of the guards, then run back and forth toward the archer and knock him down. Archer's are physically week, and these ones die after just 2 hits. Save your game after defeating the guards and dogs, then onward, brave warrior!

Strength power-up: on the roof with the ruby, throw the pot at the wall above the door with one torch on its right-hand side. Go inside and turn the wheel to raise the large wooden gate. Climb the stack of boxes on this side to get the ruby on the roof, then pass through the gate. On the other side, kill the rest of the enemies, the go into the gate control room on this side to get another ruby.

Enter the large unlocked door to progress. After the first quartet of guards, the next bunch comes out of the doors at the top of the stairs. While they're coming down, pick up the fire urn they're red with licks of flame painted on them beside the entrance and toss it at them.

If you ever get hit while carrying one of these, be sure to run before the flames get you, and be sure to never just smash one open while it's sitting on the ground. The exit is on the far side of the clearing. Endurance power-up: On roof after climbing cart, jump diagonally to the other roof. Pick up the urn and throw it at the crack in the wall on the second side of the wooden gate. If you miss, the urn regenerates. This area is almost a mirror image of Traveler Beware.

Kill the guards and dogs, the smash the fence at the far end to bring on a couple more. Enter the gate control room and turn the wheel to raise the large wooden gate. On the other side, run around the corner to the other gate control room entrance, so you'll be out of sight of the archers that appear beside the wooden gate.

Take them out after the melee guards have been dispatched. Smash the fence in one corner and climb the boxes to the roof for a ruby. On the other side, kick the cart and climb it to reach more roofs, to find a round shield and another ruby you have to jump diagonally to reach the rooftop it's on. You can also drop to the first side of the large gate from here; if you do, open it again to cross over to the exit.

Endurance power-up: In crack in ground by fire brazier. Stay near the entrance until you've killed most of the enemies, so that you're out of range of the archers by the exit. You'll frequently by surrounded by guards and dogs, so use stamina attacks liberally.

The archers run away when you approach them, so do a running jump and stomp to stun them, then chop away with your sword. If you fail to kill them all within the time limit, go back out the way you came and re-enter to try again. Strength power-up: in crack in wall illuminated by torch. Whatever you do, don't forget to climb the crates to the roof by the entrance, and open the weapon chest in the back to receive the Metal Knuckle.

Strength power-up: In crack in ground in middle of room. Pick up the Dome Shield by the entrance as you take on the first trio of foes. Fight well. After you kill the second-to-last guard, the sub-boss appears. SUB-BOSS: Khemet Elite Armed with a pair of curved swords, this guy doesn't really pose much of a threat, since he fights normally, and there's only one of him to concentrate on. Watch out at the start, though, as he has some very quick swinging sword attacks.

Once you can get a combo in, though, just keep him off his feet by starting a new knock-down combo once he starts to get up. This way, he won't have the chance to fight back.

You can always grapple him, too. Be sure to kick him while he's down, too. Defeating him earns you a tail gem, doubling your maximum health. After the first couple of guards, the rest mostly just come one by one, so take them out at your leisure. Watch for one really big dog! He's tall enough to punch.

Watch out for the archers on the roofs; stay along the walls to keep out of their line of fire. When you're down to 3 enemies, advance to the back of the area. Kill the archer on the ground and kick the cart.

It'll smash open some doors. Enter there and climb the crates to the rooftop. Finally, some strategic jumping: cross back toward the archer's on the roof, watching out for the gap to their roof.

If you knock one of them off to the ground, go down after him, then come back up here. Cross the rope bridge to the far rooftops, and walk toward the window. There are two more guards in here.

In the last room, take out the guards near the entrance, then the archer in the far corner. Another archer appears in the first corner when you kill the first one. That's it. Endurance power-up: in crack in floor between beds in first room.

The archers can be a problem, so try to get close to them and use stamina attacks. In the second room, you can climb to the upper ledges by jumping and pressing forward. On one side, there's a weapons chest with the Broad Sword! In the last room, stay in the first area until you've cleared out some guards before venturing further to where the archers can reach you. Try using the dark urn in the middle of the room: it's filled with ooze that will damage whoever touches it is it oil?

Who knows? Do a jumping stomp by it to open it. Strength power-up: In floor near podium where archer was standing by exit. Climb up to the archer's podiums when you can do so without getting hit before you reach the top, and chop away at them. Use light attacks for speedy hits without slowing you down in combo moves. Defeat the first enemies, then enter the door that opens near where you came in. A lot of enemies in a tight space.

Use stamina attacks wherever necessary. Stay along the wall you came in from to avoid the archer on the stairs. Once you've killed the men below, climb the stairs, blocking periodically to stop from getting arrows in the gut. At the top, advance through the pool and kill the archer there, picking up the Round Shield if you need it, then go down the stairs on the other side.

Enter the exit door to find the concubines who started all of this. Come back in right away to get the rubies, then go out again. Take out the bad guys, including the archers that appear at the ends of the long strip, then enter the door at the far end.

Strength power-up: in crack in floor beside end stall. I suggest using your broad sword and all light attacks to quickly chop everyone up. Endurance power-up: in crack in the floor in corner, beside boxes. Again, use the broad sword and light chops to take everyone out.

Remember to get the Dome Shield on the table before leaving; you'll probably need a new shield by now. Strength power-up: in wall behind torch, stomp near it. If you run to the exit, then back, the camera will have reversed, letting you see where you're running to as you take on those pesky archers. The last enemy to kill will be another archer by the door at the far end, which you cannot open yet.

Save and leave. Take out the enemies on the ground as quickly as you can, and don't worry about the archers above hitting you. You'll get enough health bonuses to make up for it. Climb the stairs and attack the pair of archers. If you knock one off the stairs, kill the other then drop off the side after him. Continue unchallenged down to the other side. Strength power-up: In crack in wall, on second column on left after entering. Head for the first archer, and stay behind the stairs while you fight the dogs and guards so the second archer can't get you.

You can pick up the nearest black ooze-filled urn and throw it to the archer to take some life off of him. The exit is up some stairs beside the entrance. The camera has almost no degree of automatic adjustment--it's pretty much always up to you to adjust the perspective on your own. This is accomplished with the C-stick, and it's easy enough when you're just running around, but when you're busy trying to stave off waves of enemies, it can become very frustrating to have Mathayus facing the camera and therefore obscuring oncoming attackers.

The camera will also occasionally get stuck on walls or inside doorways, hiding the action entirely. The game's graphics are a little bland but generally serviceable, and the frame rate is very smooth, for the most part.

Finally, the music that plays while you're engaged in combat loops ad nauseam, and since you're fighting all the time, this can be enough to make you tear your hair out. The Scorpion King doesn't give you much to come back to. After you've spent hours bashing heads with the same attack moves, there isn't much incentive to keep playing the game, let alone to replay it once you've finished.

The game includes a "bonus gallery" that lets you view FMV clips and concept art, but other than unlocking these paltry items, there's little reason to keep playing once you've got a feel for the combat.

The game does feature the voice acting of The Rock himself, along with a couple of other lesser Hollywood names like Mark Hamill and Earl Boen. Unfortunately, all the celebrity voices in the world couldn't dress up this otherwise bland and repetitive game. The Scorpion King is a simple brawler based on The Rock's first starring movie role. Mathayus has access to a variety of weapons that affect his combat abilities. Upvote 2 Leave Blank. About the Author.
