Correctional staff need to be supportive of rehabilitation efforts in order for them to be effective. The findings indicate that job variety, integration, and organizational commitment had positive associations with support for treatment of inmates, while work-on-family conflict had an inverse relationship. Correctional officers were less supportive of treatment than noncustodial staff.

Railroad securi- ty has been traditionally defined as a problem of trespass and liability for deaths, injuries, and property damage sustained or caused by trespassers. Rail- way infrastructure maintenance plays a crucial role for rail transport. It aims at guaranteeing safety of operations and availability of railway tracks and related equipment for traffic regulation. Moreover, it is one major cost for rail transport operations. This issue is addressed by the methodology presented in the paper.
The first step of the methodology consists of a family-based approach for the equipment reliability analysis; its purpose is the identification of families of railway items which can be given the same reliability targets. The second step builds the reliability model of the railway system for identifying the most criti- cal items, given a required service level for the transportation system.
It con- trasts the network approach with the traditional hierarchical-bureaucratic form of organization used in the design of the homeland security, and suggests it poses a valuable case study to see how information can be shared between widely divergent types of organizations, and test how best to prevent future dangerous events.
